Virginia Van Boven Artist Statement
December 2011
I love to set up my easel in some beautiful place far from the city and paint as long as I have the light. The last ten years I have done a lot of backcountry painting and less studio work in an effort to develop my personal voice as a landscape painter.
Several series of large “plein air” canvases emerged from this solo work. The “Cascade Suite” includes eight 30x40 works on permanent exhibit at Totem Lake Family Practice in Kirkland. The “Mount Rainier”, “Skagit and Sound”, and “Snoqualmie, Skykomish, and Index” series have been displayed at a Children’s Hospital Benefit exhibit, as well as a solo exhibit at the Carpenter House in Cle Elum, WA.
As an active member of the Northwest art community, I have served as both President and a board member of the Parklane Gallery Artist Cooperative in Kirkland, WA. I am also a member of the High Country Artist’s Association in Cle Elum, WA. My training includes a bachelor of art degree from the University of Washington (1996), as well as illustration studies in Maryland in the 1980s. Teaching art to people from 3 to 85 years of age has been a joy as well.
I do commissions and find it rewarding to express an individual’s dream of a beautiful landscape or floral painting to hang in their home or office.
